Day 10: First Yaam
Harikatha, Sreela Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj
3:22am to 5:46am. Chanting of the Holy Name Śrī Kṛṣṇa, completely, loudly in the company of devotees and without tenfold offences, which can bestow seven attainments—viz. cleansing of the mind-mirror, extinguishing of the forest fire of birth, death and threefold afflictions, bestowing eternal soothing benefit like moonlight, life of spiritual learning i.e. awakening of the real self, increasing of the ocean of bliss, bestowing at every step sweet taste of complete transcendental ambrosia, holy immersion of body-mind-real self—be supremely glorified.

Ata eva namābhāse sarva pāpa vināṣa āra samsara kṣaya
(Sri Bhakti-Rasamrita-Sindhu, Dakshin Part, 1/52)Simply by namābhās all sins and worldly bondage get destroyed. If tendency to commit sins is not destroyed and material attachments persist, then it should be understood that namābhās has not been manifested. Namābhās occurs only when the Holy Name is chanted without namāparādh and without the realization of one’s relation with the Lord (without sambandh-gyāna). Among all the offences to the Holy Name the topmost are blaspheming a Guru and Vaishnava (vaishnava-ninda and guru-ninda). There is no exaggeration in what is being said about namābhās that it can destroy all the sins worldly attachments. We have to think on why we are not getting the actual fruit. We have to understand that only by hearing or reading we will not get the actual fruit. There must be some offences. It is not written wrongly; the direction is not given wrongly.
Therefore, by the glow of the Holy Name all sins and the entanglements with the non-eternal things of this world, worldly bondage are destroyed.
taṁ nirvyājam bhaja guṇa-nidhe pāvanaṁ pāvanānāṁ
śraddhā-rajyan-matir atitarām uttamaḥ-śloka-maulim
prodyann antaḥ-karaṇa-kuhare hanta yan-nāma-bhānor
ābhāso ‘pi kṣapayati mahā-pātaka-dhvānta-rāśimHey guna-nidhe (one who is richly endowed with good qualities), you utter the Holiest Divine Name 'Sri Krishna', greatest Redeemer of all redeemers, with firm faith, without hypocrisy and without delay and with simple heartedness. Why? Because the glow of the Holy Name Krishna, like the glimpse of the light of Sun at Dawn, manifesting and entering into the cave of the heart will destroy all great sins and nescience.
(Guruji repeats the above teachings in English) Person who has got the aptitude to utter Krishna-nāma is richly endowed with all good qualities, who is addressed as guṇa-nidhe. ‘Krishna’ is the highest Name, the crown of all avatārās, the Supreme Redeemer of all redeemers. In spite of doing Krishna-nāma if we do not get the fruits, then we have to see what defect is there. We have to get established in the third verse (which I have got no opportunity to participate)—'tṛṇād api sunīcena taror iva sahiṣṇunā amāninā mānadena kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ'. When we will become well-established in this teachings of Mahaprabhu, there will be no offences. All these teachings are correct. We are not to blame others we have to blame ourselves. We should think why I am not getting the actual fruit. Utter Krishna-nāma, the Supreme Redeemer of all redeemers, with firm faith, and without deceitfulness, and emphasis is given here on uttering the Name with simple-heartedness. There should not be crookedness in the mind. So, like the glow of the Sun removes all darkness, the glow of the Holy Name of Krishna will enter into the cave of the heart will destroy all great sins and the cause of all great sins—the nescience.
parama pāvana kṛṣṇa tānhānra charaṇa,
niskapata śraddhā saha karaha bhajan,
jānra nāma suryābhās antare praveśi,
dhvaṁsa kare mahāpāp andhakārarāśiWe should go through the life of Raghunath Bhatta Gosvami. He is a Maha-bhagavat. He thinks that all are performing bhajan except me. Maha-bhagavat's darshan is correct darshan. He thinks, “Indirectly or directly all are worshiping but I am not worshiping.” He is seeing his own defects, he is not blaming others. This is the correct darshan and if I have got the aptitude to see defects in others and quality in me, then there is every possibility of committing offence and you will not get the fruit.

tabe jāna siddhadehe adhikāra hailaWe should follow all these Shikshashtaka teachings sincerely. Then we will get progress. We can check our progress at every stage and reach our goal gradually. The gradual procedure has been shown here. If we will practice these teachings from the core of our heart then we will attain the goal. Supreme Lord is equal to all. He will grace someone and will deprive someone, it is not so.

Only by reading we will not get the fruit. I reading this repeatedly but not getting any fruit. We have to think about this, when I shall get the actual fruit, after death?

paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanamYou can get all kinds of attainments by Nāma Saṅkīrtan. The seven principal attainments are mentioned here: cleansing of the mirror of the heart, extinguishing the forest fire of birth, death and threefold afflictions, bestowing eternal soothing benefit like moonlight, life of spiritual learning i.e. awakening of the real self, increasing of the ocean of bliss, bestowing at every step sweet taste of complete transcendental ambrosia, and holy immersion of body-mind-real self. All glories to Sri Krishna Saṅkīrtan!!

(Chaitanya Charitamrita Antya 20.13-14)“By performing congregational chanting of the Holy Names, one can destroy the sinful material existence, purify the unclean heart and awaken all varieties of devotional service. The result of chanting is that one awakens his love for Krishna and tastes transcendental bliss. Ultimately, one attains the association of Krishna and engages in His devotional service, as if immersing himself in a great ocean of love.”
Thinking of Krishna-lila (pastimes of Krishna)
niśante kirtane kuñja bhaṅga kare dhyana
krame krame citta lagne rasera vidhānWhen one is established in Saṅkīrtan, by doing Saṅkīrtan from the core of the heart, the citta will be sanctified. The pastimes manifest in a sanctified citta. Contemplation on the transcendental pastimes of Krishna to be done with kirtan, by that our life will be sanctified fully. The pastimes of Krishna at various periods of the day will be revealed in the sanctified heart, in the purified heart, not in polluted heart. So many evidences have been given by Bhaktivinoda Thakur about the Saṅkīrtan. Due to want of time we do not go through them. But those who are serious should go through all these evidences, so that we can rightly perform Saṅkīrtan. By that our mind will be sanctified. It is not to teach others, it is to teach myself. The persons who are observing they should teach themselves, if I teach myself, correct myself, others will also get such inspiration. That is the process of spreading śuddha-bhakti. One should not read or speak to teach others.
We have to meditate on the pastimes of RadhaKrishna with sanctified heart, then we can get that transcendental bliss, rasa.

(Govindalilamrita)Vrinda Devi apprehending day-break sends Suk-Sarika and other birds to start chirping to awaken Radha-Krishna. By their sweet sounds of chirping, that is singing the glories of Radha-Krishna, first Radharani wakes up. It is like the sunrays become visible before Sun rises. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur writes in one of his hymn, 'ātapa-rahita sūraj nāhi jāni rādhā-virahita mādhava nāhi māni'—I never know the sun without sunlight and likewise I never think about the existence of Madhav without Srimari Radharani. Radharani comes first so She opens Her eyes, by hearing the singing which is with so much of devotion and sweetness. Sweetness means devotion—pure devotion. Sweetness depends on the devotion and not only on the voice. As Radharani is awake now, they are to awaken Krishna. Krishna is thinking that this female monkey has got the desire to serve as per her capability. But they are depriving her of service because of her harsh voice. He thinks, “No, you must give her a chance otherwise I shall not open My eyes.” Then they are forced to give permission to the female monkey Kakkhati. She makes a loud harsh sound. Krishna likes this sound because it is out of devotion. So we have got this great opportunity to worship Krishna. He is so merciful. After opening Their eyes, Radha-Krishna mutually see each other with wistful eyes. Both are afraid thinking that others may come to know about Them, it is late. This happens because of the influence of Yogamaya. They go to Their respective homes and go to sleep in their respective beds. Nobody gets to know about Them.
