Day 5 : Fourth Yaam
Harikatha, Sreela Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj
10:34am to 3:22pm. O Supreme Lord! I have got no desire for wealth, manpower or erudition (desire for deceitful Trivarga— worldly piety, money and lust or even to merge myself with the Impersonal Formless Brahma, i.e. ‘Mukti’— salvation, which is more deceitful). My only prayer is to get causeless one-pointed devotion to You.

Madhyahna kalia bhajan - Mid-day worship - Worship with taste (Ruchi bhajan)nāma sādhakera ahaituki kṛṣṇa bhakti binā anya kāmanā nahi. The true worshipper of Harinam (Nama sadhak) has got no other desire except causeless devotion to Sri Krsna. The meaning is when we chant Harinam with ulterior desires then it is not Nama Sadhan, it is Nama aparadh, offence to the Holy Name. In spite of that, without deceit and following the instructions of Guru and Vaishnavas if we make sincere efforts to do bhajan, then by their mercy we may develop inclination to serve. Secondly it is very difficult to attain causeless devotion. One who already possesses it he can give it others.
Here it is clearly stated that those who have got other desires they cannot worship Me because their target is something else. We cannot get Supreme Lord. He is Himself, by Himself and for Himself. So if any other desire is there then God will not appear, for which we can dominate that will appear, maya will appear. Then we cannot do actual Harinam. But we should not disheartened because if we have sincere desire then we shall come in contact with bona-fide devotees. Lord will bring us to the bona fide devotees. Bona-fide devotees will come or Lord will come in the form of bona-fide devotee to help us. There is no doubt. He is Omniscient, He knows everything. If you are sincere (He will surely help). Causeless devotion (ahaituki bhakti) is the nature of the soul. It can be awakened by an awakened soul. Sleeping souls, those who are dormant souls, how can they awaken others? It is not possible.
Sri Sikshastaka 4th Verse
na dhanaṁ na janaṁ na sundarīṁ
kavitāṁ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye
mama janmani janmanīśvare
bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukḥ tvayiIn the 4th Verse Caitanya Mahaprabhu instructs us to pray in this manner. ‘O Supreme Lord! I do not desire for wealth, manpower or erudition, trivarga i.e. worldly piety, money and lust, or even to merge myself with the Impersonal Formless Brahma i.e. mukti – salvation. My only prayer is to get causeless one-pointed devotion to You birth after birth. ‘ Now I do not have that sort of devotion in me, but due to some sukriti I came in the association of sadhu and have learnt this world is non-eternal temporary, the relations here are non-eternal, that desire for sense enjoyment is not good, I understood all this. But due to previous impressions I am not strong enough to pursue the nature of the atma i.e. causeless devotion to You. Inside my heart there are lots of sins and regrets that in spite of obtaining human birth I have not begun bhajan. With such perturbation of heart if one worships Lord in this manner, especially remembers Mahaprabhu, Nityananda Prabhu and their associates, then Lord and His devotees are present everywhere and they will come and help us. But if there is deceit, it will not happen. If there be deceit then he will not attain auspiciousness because he simply does not want it. If one has weakness of the heart then it is ok, but he should be non-deceitful. Causeless devotion to Lord will manifest in his heart because Vaishnavas who are the mercy-incarnate forms of the Lord are always there to bestow devotion.

strī putra dāsa dāsī kuṭumbādi jana
kāvya alaṅkāra ādi sundarī kavitā
pārthiva-viṣaya madhye e saba vāratāWe should not be disappointed. At present a conditioned soul cannot say, O Supreme Lord I do not want money, I do not want manpower, I do not want erudition, I do not want salvation, no conditioned soul can say like this. But if you are simple-hearted, if you are sincere and if you have got weaknesses, Supreme Lord and His devotees are always there ready to forgive you. But if there be hypocrisy, crookedness, then you cannot get. Sincerely you try, they will come. Supreme Lord will come in the form of devotees, in the form of Guru, always He is everywhere. So there should not be any kind of disappointment.

What benefit we will derive hearing such highest pastimes of Radha-Krsna? Surely there is benefit and so it is given here. It is not that some how we recite and remember these pastimes during this one month and wait when it will be over. Such thinking is not correct. This we have to perform all through our life, this one month is practice. By getting entrance into the eight periods of pastimes we can go to Dhama. Mercifully Bhakti Vinod Thakur is giving us indication of these pastimes though knowing that we are not eligible now but still desire, so let them come to our dhama because we are in his parampara specially. So Sri Harinama Cintamani, Sri Bhajana Rahasya are not for everyone, he wrote it in those books, it is for those who are devotees and who have taken shelter in his parampara.

dolāraṇyāmbu-vaṁśī-hṛti-rati-madhupānārka-pūjādi-līlau
rādhā-kṛṣṇau satṛṣṇau parijana-ghaṭayā sevyamānau smarāmi
(Sri Govinda-lilamrta)Gopis are all the time making endeavors to make the meeting of Radha-Krsna at mid-day at Radha-kunda possible. And the sweet transcendental ecstatic feelings that manifest during this union never manifest at any other periods of pastimes, like eight principal ecstatic feelings and various kinds of other subordinate ecstatic feelings of different names, (astasattvik-vikar, sanchari bhav, etc.). When we have entry into these sweet pastimes only then we will understand these ecstatic feelings. These ecstatic feelings are all so very beautiful like ornaments and are called vamya, utkanta, vishaya laulya, chanchal, satrishna, etc. Radha-Krsna are engrossed in various transcendental pastimes like swinging ceremony (dola-khela), pleasant strolling in the forest(vana-vihara), water sports in ponds and rivers(jala-keli), stealing of flute(vamsi-harana) and other transcendental amorous pastimes(rati-krida), drinking of sweet honey (madhu-pana), worship of Sun-God (surya-puja), etc. and when engrossed in these transcendental pastimes are being served by gopis. I remember such RadhaKrishna who are engrossed in these divine transcendental pastimes at Radha Kunda.
Sri Rupa Gosvami’s Upadeshamrta will also be recited and studied here necessarily whenever there is time. In the last verse (Verse11 of Sri Upadeshamrta) the glories of Sri Radha-kunda are sung thus
kṛṣṇasyoccaiḥ praṇaya-vasatiḥ preyasībhyo ’pi rādhā
kuṇḍaṁ cāsyā munibhir abhitas tādṛg eva vyadhāyi
yat preṣṭhair apy alam asulabhaṁ kiṁ punar bhakti-bhājāṁ
tat premedaṁ sakṛd api saraḥ snātur āviṣkarotiIt was started with the verse ‘vaco vegam manasah krodha-vegam jihva-vegam udaropastha-vegam…’ then ‘atyaharah prayasas ca..’ and in the end came to the above verse to say who will be eligible to think, deliberate on that. The most dear servitors are all the confidantes (gopis), they are the highest and amongst them Radharani is the foremost, dearest (priyatama) of Krishna. The great sages who have got the grace of Sriman Mahaprabhu and Sri Sri Radha-krsna only they can know, not outside persons. All the sages are not of one category. These great sages have unanimously declared that Sri Radha Kunda is also the topmost object of Krsna’s love. He is not satisfied by the use of the word ‘durlabha’ rare, and said almost impossible ‘atyanta durlabh’ ‘asulabham’ i.e. tremendously hard, very difficult to attain even for such dear devotee like Narada, he is not entitled to, what to speak of those who are novice, ordinary sadhakas who have just started sadhan bhajan, how can they enter into it. And there we go and take bath? Upon one who simply bathes in its waters just once with great devotion will be bestowed eternal residence in Radha-kunda. How many times some might have taken bath in it still roam here and there with contaminated thoughts. I speak my condition, inside the heart what changes have come about? We have not yet had the real darshan of Radha-kunda, what bath one can take? It is the highest transcendental realm and blissful realm. Radha-kunda is the highest. With this material body, physical body we cannot enter into it, consisting of three primal qualities of external potency, sattva, raja and tamo guna. With this body how can I enter into nirgun dhama (transcendental abode)? It is impossible. Still he said so that we become greedy knowing of such an abode. Mahaprabhu is there. By becoming non-deceitful, sincere, even impossible becomes possible.
