    Śrī Rāmānanda Rāya

There are two Arjuna in Kṛṣṇa-līlā: one is a priya-narma-sakhā in Vraja, the other is one of the Pāṇḍavas. These two combined to become Rāmānanda Rāya, the dear companion of Mahāprabhu. He was very knowledgeable in the teachings of loving devotion to Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa,, which he described to Mahāprabhu daily. Some people say that Rāmānanda Rāya was Lalitā sakhī, while others do not. Mahāprabhu Himself told Bhavānanda Rāya that he was Pāṇḍu, the husband of Kuntī and father of the Pāṇḍavas. The Pāṇḍavas Arjuna also united with the gopī Arjunīyā.

Harikatha on Sri Ramanand Raya, Holland 2002

Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur writes, “The love that awakened in Ramananda and Mahaprabhu when they met was the same as the love that Vishakha had for Radha and Krishna in Vraja, and that which Radha and Krishna had for Vishakha.” Thus it is clear that Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur saw Ramananda Raya as Vishakha. Ramananda Raya was one of the Lord’s three and a half most intimate associates.

Srila Gurudev, while narrating the previous birth of Prahlad Maharaj, emphasizes the benefits of observing Narasimha Caturdasi. In his previous life, Prahlad Maharaj was the son of a Brahmin named Vasu Ghosh and was known as Vasudeva. Despite being attracted to a prostitute, Vasudeva unknowingly observed fasting on the holy appearance day of Narasimha Deva. Gurudev explains how this act of fasting, even performed unknowingly, led to Vasudeva becoming a great devotee of the Supreme Lord in his next life as Prahlad Maharaj.

      Harikatha on Sri Narasimha Chaturdasi

By narrating the life story of Prahlad Maharaj, Srila Gurudev emphasized the teachings from his life with strong words. He highlighted that the root cause of our attachment to temporary material objects is the forgetfulness of our real identity. Srila Gurudev explained that if we continue to perform devotional activities while remaining attached to temporary worldly objects, we cannot progress in our devotion. Association of bona-fide sādhus is the only remedy to get rid ourselves of these false attachments. They will help us realize our true identity, and guide us toward our real duties. Later, Srila Gurudev sang the glories of Lord Narasimha Deva, narrating His appearance and His divine pastimes of killing Hiranyakasipu.

      Śrī Daśāvatāra-stotram

The Daśāvatāra-stotra and Gīta-govinda, both written by Śrī Jayadeva Gosvāmī, are still sung daily before Lord Jagannātha Deva for His pleasure. The Daśāvatāra deities are worshipped daily in the Jagannātha Temple at Śrī Puruṣottama-dhāma and in many other temples across India. In the Vaiṣṇava lineages of Assam, harināma-saṅkīrtana is performed by singing about the appearance and pastimes of the ten avatāras. Out of the countless manifestations of the Supreme Lord, the Daśāvatāra occupy a special position.

        Highest Munificent Form of Godhead

A votary, to satisfy Chaitanya Mahāprabhu and the Supreme Lord Śrī Krishna, should at least practice the first and third verses of Śikṣāṣṭaka sincerely from the core of the heart. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu has taught in the first verse, mainly seven principal attainments or more correctly all attainments while doing Śrī Rādhā-Krishna sankīrtan.

His kīrtana is Only for Bhagavan’s Pleasure

Krishna is telling Narada Goswami ‘mad-bhaktā yatra gāyanti tatra tiṣṭhāmi nārada’ (Padma Puran). 'Wherever My devotees assemble and sing the glories of My Name, Form, Attributes, Pastimes and Personal Associates is the place that I stay.' Also, Srila Gurudev would refer to Sri Vyasa Deva’s pastime of attaining eternal bliss after he wrote Srimad Bhagavatam exclusively for the pleasure of the Lord on the advice of his Guru Narada Goswami. Here Srila Bhakti Kushala Padmanabha Maharaj is affectionately remembering the same teaching of Gurudev through his kirtans and harikatha. that all the limbs of devotion should be performed with the sole purpose of propitiating the Supreme Lord and nothing else.
