    Śrī Rāmānanda Rāya

There are two Arjunas in Kṛṣṇa-līlā: one is a priya-narma-sakhā in Vraja, the other is one of the Pāṇḍavas. These two combined to become Rāmānanda Rāya, the dear companion of Mahāprabhu. He was very knowledgeable in the teachings of loving devotion to Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa,, which he described to Mahāprabhu daily. Some people say that Rāmānanda Rāya was Lalitā sakhī, while others do not. Mahāprabhu Himself told Bhavānanda Rāya that he was Pāṇḍu, the husband of Kuntī and father of the Pāṇḍavas. The Pāṇḍavas Arjuna also united with the gopī Arjunīyā.

Harikatha on Sri Ramanand Raya, Holland 2002

Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur writes, “The love that awakened in Ramananda and Mahaprabhu when they met was the same as the love that Vishakha had for Radha and Krishna in Vraja, and that which Radha and Krishna had for Vishakha.” Thus it is clear that Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur saw Ramananda Raya as Vishakha. Ramananda Raya was one of the Lord’s three and a half most intimate associates.

Here, the Supreme Lord empowered His devotee to speak and He Himself became the listener. Mahaprabhu inquires about the highest form of worship and worship-able object. In reply Ramanand Raya describes the gradual development of theism.

    Glories of Ramanand Raya

The Lord said to Ramanand Raya, “You are a great devotee, indeed you are the best amongst them. All those who behold you are immediately affected so that their hearts melt. What to speak of others—I am a mayavadi sannyasi, yet I feel the onset of Krishna prema when I touch you.”

This article illustrates the life of Mahāprabhu’s personal associate Śrī Śrīnivāsa Ācārya. He preached the teachings of Mahāprabhu both through speaking on the Bhāgavata and through kirtan. Even before the birth of Śrīnivāsa Ācārya Mahāprabhu declared, “I will bring scriptures into the world through Rupa Gosvāmī and others; through Śrīnivāsa I shall distribute them. Śrīnivāsa is the embodiment of pure love for Me. All minds will be enthused upon seeing him.”

Mahaprabhu called Govinda and said in a deep voice, as if from a trance state: “Chaitanya Das desires to have a child. Indeed, his wife will soon give birth to a jewel of a son, who will be named Srinivas. He will be the manifest form of My love and will increase everyone’s enthusiasm for devotion. I will bring scriptures into the world through Rupa Gosvami and others; through Srinivas I shall distribute them. Srinivas is the embodiment of pure love for Me. Chandan Yatra

The incarnation of the Supreme Lord in the Deity form is to provide service opportunities and award bliss to His devotees. Lord Jagannath Deva appeared in Nilachal Dham on the desire of His devotee, king Indradhyumn Maharaj, to accept his loving services. And astonishingly, the Lord Himself instructed him on what are the special services He would like to accept from him. One amongst those services is smearing the white sandalwood paste on His transcendental spiritual body. It is celebrated as Chandan Yatra festival which starts from Akshaya Tritiya and celebrated for 21 days. Following Lord Jagannath’s order His vijay-vigrah Sri Madanmohan is taken to Narendra sarovar to sail in the boat along with his minister, Sri Loknath Mahadev and others.

Supreme Lord is subdued by the pure love of His devotees and He delights in accepting their loving services. Bound by the pure love of Sri Madhavendra Puri, Gopal ordered him to get Malayaja sandalwood from Jagannath Puri and smear upon His transcendental spiritual body. Overjoyed to receive the Lord’s direct order, Madhavendra Puri, after engaging a qualified person to serve Gopal, started off on a journey to the east to find Malayan sandalwood. Who can comprehend the transcendental loving relations between the Lord and His devotees!

        Festival of Chandan Yatra

This article provides a detailed history of the Sri Candana-Yatra festival as celebrated in Sri Jagannatha Dhama, Puri, which is to be meditated upon with devotion. It is impossible for an ordinary individual to comprehend those pastimes. Similarly, understanding the glories of Sri Purusottama Dhama, where Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu concluded His earthly pastimes, can never be understood by common people. But there is no reason to get disappointed. One gets the actual benefit in all circumstances only by the power of transcendental remembrance.

        Jagannath Deva [Braja-rasa in Dwarka]

As Rohini described the Vrndavan-lila, Krsna and Balaram became aware of what was happening. Coming to the door where Subhadra was standing guard, They could hear the talk of Rohini, and remembering Vrndavan, the Gopis, and all these things, a great intensity of feeling came over Them. A great change of feeling came over Krsna and Balaram, so great that Their bodies also began to change; just as Mahaprabhu had shown when He fell at the gate of the Jagannath Mandir and His arms and legs entered into His body.

His kīrtana is Only for Bhagavan’s Pleasure

Krishna is telling Narada Goswami ‘mad-bhaktā yatra gāyanti tatra tiṣṭhāmi nārada’ (Padma Puran). 'Wherever My devotees assemble and sing the glories of My Name, Form, Attributes, Pastimes and Personal Associates is the place that I stay.' Also, Srila Gurudev would refer to Sri Vyasa Deva’s pastime of attaining eternal bliss after he wrote Srimad Bhagavatam exclusively for the pleasure of the Lord on the advice of his Guru Narada Goswami. Here Srila Bhakti Kushala Padmanabha Maharaj is affectionately remembering the same teaching of Gurudev through his kirtans and harikatha. that all the limbs of devotion should be performed with the sole purpose of propitiating the Supreme Lord and nothing else.
