Day 7: First Yaam
Harikatha, Sreela Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj
3:22am to 5:46am. Chanting of the Holy Name Śrī Kṛṣṇa, completely, loudly in the company of devotees and without tenfold offences, which can bestow seven attainments—viz. cleansing of the mind-mirror, extinguishing of the forest fire of birth, death and threefold afflictions, bestowing eternal soothing benefit like moonlight, life of spiritual learning i.e. awakening of the real self, increasing of the ocean of bliss, bestowing at every step sweet taste of complete transcendental ambrosia, holy immersion of body-mind-real self—be supremely glorified.
-
Ata eva namābhāse sarva pāpa vināṣa āra samsara kṣaya
(Sri Bhakti-Rasamrita-Sindhu, Dakshin Part, 1/52)Therefore, the glow of the Holy Name can destroy all sins and worldly entanglements.
taṁ nirvyājam bhaja guṇa-nidhe pāvanaṁ pāvanānāṁ

ābhāso ‘pi kṣapayati mahā-pātaka-dhvānta-rāśimOne who has got the aptitude to do Krishna-nāma is guna-nidhe, i.e. he is richly endowed with all good qualities. You should utter the name of Krishna who is the highest Redeemer of all redeemers. He is worshiped by emancipated souls, realized souls. He is the crown of all avataras. His worship should be done with firm faith, without deceitfulness and immediately with simple heartedness. These conditions have been imposed. By serving Krishna you serve all, there should not be any doubt in it. There should not be any crookedness in the mind. Hypocrites cannot get eternal welfare. Like the glow of the Sun removes all darkness, the glow of the Holy Name (only the namābhasa), by entering into the cave of the heart can destroy all great sins and nescience.
parama pāvana kṛṣṇa tānhānra charaṇa,

chāri śloke kramaśaḥ bhajana pakkva kara,
pañcam ślokete nija siddha deha varaYou shall cultivate all these verses from the core of the heart, and gradually everything will be revealed in your heart. Then you will get a realised form, realised state. Without that you cannot enter into transcendental pastimes of RadhaKrishna.
ei śloke siddhadehe rādhāpadāśraya,

chaya śloka bhajite anartha dure gela,
tabe jāna siddhadehe adhikāra haila,
adhikāra nā labhiyā siddhadeha bhāve,
viparjya buddhi janme śaktira abhāveAll these ecstatic feelings are not manifested so you have to understand that some offences are there. You should be very careful to remove those offences. By the fruits you can understand whether you have your progress or not. Without getting actual competency, eligibility if you want to think about the realized soul it will be of reverse result.

paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanamEverything you will get by doing Harinama. There is no need of doing any other form of spiritual cultivation, practice, only Harinama. Here, principal seven attainments are mentioned; cleansing of the mirror of the heart, extinguishing the forest fire of birth, death and threefold afflictions, bestowing eternal soothing benefit like moonlight, life of spiritual learning i.e. awakening of the real self, increasing of the ocean of bliss, bestowing at every step the sweet taste of complete transcendental ambrosia, holy immersion of body-mind-real self. All glories to Sri Krishna Sankirtan!!

(Chaitanya Charitamrita Antya 20.13-14)By performing congregational chanting of the Holy Names, one can destroy the sinful material existence, purify the unclean heart and awaken all varieties of devotional service. The result of chanting is that one awakens his love for Krishna and tastes transcendental bliss. Ultimately, one attains the association of Krishna and engages in His devotional service, as if immersing himself in a great ocean of love.
Thinking of Krishna-lila (pastimes of Krishna)
niśante kirtane kuñja bhaṅga kare dhyana
krame krame citta lagne rasera vidhānWe have got a procedure on how to remember transcendental pastimes given by realized souls. We have to remember and meditate, but not whimsically.
rātryante trastavṛnderita bahu-vira-vaibodhitau kirasārī
padyair-hṛdhyair api sukha-śayanād-utthitau tau sakhibhiḥ
dṛṣṭau hṛṣṭau tadātvoditarati-lalitau kakkhaṭīgīḥ saśaṅkau
rādhā-kṛṣṇau satṛṣṇāv api nija-nija dhāmnyāpta talpau smarāmi
(Govindalilamrita)At the close of the night, Vrinda Devi sends Suk-Sarika and other birds to awaken RadhaKrishna. By their chirping sounds and their pleasant and not so pleasant singing of glories, at first Radharani opens Her eyes.
Service is to be done at the appropriate and fix time. In the summer season, day begins early and in winter, it begins late, not at the same time. But the birds set their time accordingly. The time when worshipable Lord takes rest, one should avoid making any sounds, even if it is chanting Lord's Name. It should be done at proper time. We should not make any sounds even when Vaishnavas are resting. In my initial days in the Math, once in Orissa in some place when Gurudev and his other god-brothers were resting, I was chanting Mahamantra loudly. I thought I am doing a good job. But Guruji called me downstairs and asked me, “Why are you chanting so loudly. Vaishnavas are taking rest. You want to show-off that you are performing bhajan. Whiling resting they are remembering their object of worship so you should not disturb them. By this you may incur offence to them. If you want to chant loudly, you should go to a distant place.”
I then started chanting silently. So in the initial days, we think that chanting loudly anywhere and anytime is good. But chanting also has to be done on time. It should not be to show-off to Vaishnavas that I am doing good bhajan and you are sleeping. This is not correct.
So in RadhaKrishna’s pastimes, these birds are efficient in their service. At the right and appropriate time they start their chirping and along with them Gopis also sing sweet songs. They will not forcibly wake Them up. They sing in such a way that RadhaKrishna open Their eyes by their own sweet will.
Listening to the sweet singing, Radharani opens up Her eyes. Seeing that all the Gopis become happy as their responsibility to wake up Krishna has gone and now it is Radharani's responsibility to wake Him up. Radharan is in difficulty, what can She do? She cannot push Krishna as that would be like committing offence to Him. When Krishna does not open up His eyes for long time then the Gopis are forced to allow the monkey whose voice is very harsh. Krishna wants that everybody should be given scope for service. And that female monkey makes a loud screaming sound which is very harsh. But Krishna thinks it is very sweet, very sweet. We cannot understand this. Whatever is done by devotion is sweet, even if externally it is harsh, in actuality it is not harsh. Krishna opens His eyes and after that RadhaKrishna mutually looking at each other with wistful eyes go to their respective houses and respective beds to sleep.
